Free AI Note Taker for Mac (2026): Free Plans for Zoom, Meet and Teams

The best free AI note taker for Mac in 2026: Scribbl, with no bot on Zoom, Google Meet or Teams. Each free plan's limit, and what Apple's own tools do.

Updated October 30, 2026

The best free AI note taker for Mac in 2026 is Scribbl. Its free plan gives you 10 meetings a month with no limit on meeting length, and every meeting gets the video, a transcript with speaker names, AI notes and action items. On a Mac, Scribbl Desktop records your Zoom and Microsoft Teams calls and the Scribbl Chrome extension records Google Meet. Nothing joins the call, and you don't need to be the host. Apple's own tools don't take meeting notes for you, and the other free note takers either send a bot into the call, cap the minutes or the AI notes, or keep no recording at all.

Does Apple have a free AI note taker on Mac?

Not for meetings. Here is what your Mac and your meeting apps give you for free.

  • Apple Notes. On recent macOS, Apple Notes can record and transcribe audio, and Apple Intelligence can summarize text. It isn't a meeting note taker: it doesn't join your calls, it doesn't map speakers across a meeting, and it doesn't push action items into your workflow.
  • ChatGPT for Mac, record mode. Record mode transcribes and summarizes meetings in the ChatGPT app for Mac, but OpenAI lists it for Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu plans. It is not on the free ChatGPT plan.
  • Zoom's own AI. On a free Zoom account, Zoom AI gives meeting summaries for 3 meetings you host a month, and free Zoom meetings end at 40 minutes. Only the host or a co-host can start the summary. More in our guide to the free AI note taker for Zoom.
  • Microsoft Teams' own AI. Intelligent recap needs a Teams Premium license ($10 per user per month, paid yearly) or a Microsoft Copilot license ($21 to $30 per user per month) for each person. The free recap has no AI summary. More in our guide to the free AI note taker for Microsoft Teams.

What about free offline note takers for Mac?

Some free Mac apps do everything on your computer: they listen through your microphone and your Mac's sound, then write the transcript and notes without uploading anything. In October 2026 Google released one called AI Edge Foresight, a free experimental app for Macs with Apple silicon, with no subscription, in which you type short bullets during the call and it fills them in from the live transcript (announcement write-up, October 10, 2026).

An offline app suits private notes for yourself. For work calls, most people need more than that:

  • The video. Scribbl keeps the meeting video with the transcript, so you can rewatch the screen share or the demo, not only read about it.
  • Notes you can share. Your meetings live in your Scribbl account, so a teammate can see the notes and action items without sitting at your Mac.
  • Nothing to type during the call. Scribbl writes the AI notes and action items after the call on its own; you can stay in the conversation.
  • The same setup on every platform. Zoom and Teams through Scribbl Desktop, Google Meet through the Chrome extension, all on one free plan of 10 meetings a month.

Why Scribbl is the best free AI note taker for Mac

  • Every call on your Mac, one account. Scribbl Desktop records the Zoom and Teams apps on your Mac (Apple silicon), and the Chrome extension records Google Meet. The free plan includes Google Meet, Zoom and Microsoft Teams, 10 meetings a month in total, and it resets every month.
  • Nothing joins the call. No bot in the participant list, nothing for anyone to admit, and nothing announced to the people you're talking to.
  • You don't need to be the host. It works in your own meetings and in meetings other people run, including calls another company organizes.
  • The whole meeting, every time. No limit on meeting length on the free plan, so a 90-minute call is recorded and summarized like a 10-minute one.
  • The recording, not only notes. Every meeting gets the video, a transcript with speaker names, AI notes and action items, so you can go back and check what was said.
  • Pro when you want more: unlimited meetings for $13 per user per month billed annually ($20 monthly), and on Pro you can ask Claude or ChatGPT about every meeting.

The other free AI note takers for Mac

Granola. A Mac app with no bot and a $0 Basic plan with no end date and no daily limit on transcription. The limit is history: only notes from the last 30 days are visible in the app, and older notes stay locked until you upgrade. It keeps no recording, because it deletes the audio after transcribing. Business is $14 per user per month, billed monthly.

Otter. The free Basic plan gives 300 transcription minutes a month and 30 minutes per conversation, and only your 25 most recent conversations stay visible. On a Mac it works through the web and a Chrome extension, and its notetaker joins Zoom and Teams calls as a participant.

Fathom. Records and transcribes without a cap, but advanced AI summaries cover only your first 5 calls a month, and AI action items need Premium ($16 per user per month billed annually, or $20 monthly). Its bot joins the call by default; bot-free capture is a beta on Mac.

Fireflies. New accounts since September 1, 2026 get unlimited transcription only with calendar auto-join turned on, which sends its bot into your meetings; otherwise it's 3 transcriptions. 400 minutes of storage in total.

tl;dv. Unlimited recordings, but AI notes on only your first 10 meetings for the life of the account. Its bot joins the call.

Read AI. 5 meeting transcripts a month, up to 1 hour each, and its assistant joins Zoom and Teams calls.
