Free AI Note Taker for Microsoft Teams (2026): No Bot, No Copilot License

The best free AI note taker for Microsoft Teams in 2026 is Scribbl. Its free plan gives you 10 meetings a month with no limit on meeting length, and every Teams meeting gets the video, a transcript with speaker names, AI notes and action items. Scribbl Desktop records Teams from your own Mac or Windows computer, so nothing joins the call, nothing waits in the lobby, and you don't need a Copilot or Teams Premium license. Teams' own AI notes need a paid license for each person, and the other free note takers send a bot that Teams now holds in the lobby.

Scribbl is the only option here that gives every Teams meeting AI notes and the video for free, with nothing for Teams to hold in the lobby or block.

Does Microsoft Teams have a free AI note taker?

No. Teams' AI meeting notes are part of intelligent recap, which needs a Teams Premium license ($10 per user per month, paid yearly) or a Microsoft Copilot license ($21 to $30 per user per month) for each person, and the meeting has to be transcribed. Without one, the meeting recap shows the recording, the transcript, shared files and a Notes tab people type into, with no AI summary. Copilot and Facilitator need a Copilot license and only work in meetings organized inside your company, and people from outside the organizer's organization don't get the AI recap unless someone shares it. Free personal Teams has no recording at all. More in does Microsoft Teams have AI meeting notes.

Why free note-taker bots struggle in Teams now

Since mid-2026, Teams detects external bots when they try to join, marks them in the lobby and keeps them there until an organizer admits them, even when everyone else skips the lobby. Microsoft is adding a second option that blocks identified bots automatically; its notice MC1459141 put general availability from early to late October 2026, off until an admin turns it on. Otter, Fireflies, Fathom, tl;dv and Read AI each join Teams as a guest participant, so in a meeting another company runs, whether your note taker gets in is not up to you. Scribbl isn't affected: nothing joins the call. Details in Teams is blocking meeting bots.
