How do I update the Scribbl Chrome extension?
Chrome updates the Scribbl extension on its own, in the background, so you usually do not have to do anything. To get the newest version right now, open chrome://extensions, turn on Developer mode in the top right corner, and click Update. Then reload your Google Meet tab. Does the extension update by itself?
Yes. Chrome checks for extension updates on its own, a few times a day, and installs them in the background. Most people never update Scribbl by hand. The steps below are for when you want the newest version right now.
How do I update it right now?
- In Chrome, open chrome://extensions. Type it into the address bar, or open the Chrome menu, then Extensions, then Manage Extensions.
- Turn on Developer mode with the switch in the top right corner.
- Click Update in the bar that appears at the top. Chrome fetches the newest version of every extension, including Scribbl.
- Turn Developer mode back off if you like.
If you are in a Google Meet call, reload the Meet tab afterwards so the new version is the one running.
How do I check which version I have?
On chrome://extensions, click Details on the Scribbl card. The version number is listed there. Compare it with the version shown on the Scribbl listing on the Chrome Web Store.
Updating did not fix my problem. What next?
- On chrome://extensions, turn Scribbl off and on again with its switch.
- If that does not help, click Remove, then add Scribbl again from the Chrome Web Store and sign in. Your meetings stay in your Scribbl account; removing the extension does not touch them.

Does Scribbl Desktop update itself too?
Yes. Scribbl Desktop, which records Zoom and Microsoft Teams, updates itself, so you install it once. There is nothing to do by hand. See Zoom setup and Microsoft Teams setup.
Do I need the extension for Zoom or Teams?
No. The Chrome extension is for Google Meet only. Zoom and Microsoft Teams use Scribbl Desktop, for Mac with Apple silicon and Windows. Every meeting from all three lands in the same Scribbl account.
