How do I set up Scribbl for Zoom?
Download Scribbl Desktop for Mac or Windows, sign up for Scribbl, and join your Zoom meeting the way you always do. Scribbl Desktop records from your own computer, so no bot joins the call and you do not need to be the host. When the meeting ends, the AI notes, action items, transcript and video are in your Scribbl account. Zoom is in the free plan. More on the Zoom AI note taker page.
Nothing joins the call, and Zoom is in the free plan. Get Scribbl Desktop
What do I need?
- A Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or newer), or a PC with 64-bit Windows 10 or 11
- A Scribbl account. Sign up free.
- Scribbl Desktop, for Mac or Windows
There is no build for Intel Macs, so Scribbl Desktop will not run on one. You do not need a paid Zoom account, and you do not need to be the host. Scribbl Desktop is included in every Scribbl plan, including free.
How do I install Scribbl Desktop?
- Sign up for Scribbl, if you have not yet.
- Download Scribbl Desktop for Mac or Windows and open it.
- Give it screen and audio recording permission when your operating system asks. You grant this once, on first run. On a Mac, macOS prompts you for it, and you may need to restart the app afterwards.
- Join your Zoom meeting the way you always do.
The app updates itself, so you install it once.
Windows warned me about the download. What do I do?
That is expected right now. The Windows installer is not code-signed yet, so SmartScreen shows a blue warning. Choose More info, then Run anyway. Scribbl is working through signing so the warning goes away.
How does recording start?
On its own. Scribbl Desktop watches for a supported meeting window and starts recording when you open a Zoom call. There is no button to remember. If you join late, you still get everything from the moment you arrived.
Do I need to be the host?
No. With Zoom's own recorder, only the host or a co-host can record to the cloud, and a participant can record only if the host clicks Allow Record. Scribbl Desktop records on your own computer, so it works in Zoom meetings anyone hosts and nobody has to grant anything.
Does a bot join my Zoom meeting?
No. Scribbl Desktop records on your own computer, so nothing joins the call and nobody new shows up in the participant list. Nobody has to let anything in, and nobody gets an email saying a note taker was added.
Will people in the meeting see that Scribbl is recording?
No. Zoom shows its red REC label only when Zoom itself records, and Scribbl adds nothing to the meeting window. So say at the start of the call that you are recording, and check the consent rules where you and the other people are. Recording laws vary by region, so make sure you have the consent you need from the people in your meetings.
What do I get after the meeting?
AI notes, action items, a transcript with speaker names and the video, in the same Scribbl account and the same list as your Google Meet and Teams calls, with the same search across them. Zoom is in the free plan, which includes 10 meetings a month. More in what Scribbl gives you after a meeting.
Does Scribbl Desktop record Google Meet?
No. Google Meet uses the Scribbl Chrome extension, so see Google Meet setup. The same Scribbl Desktop app records Microsoft Teams, so there is nothing more to install for Teams.
The free plan includes Google Meet, Zoom and Microsoft Teams. Get Scribbl Desktop
