The short answer
Google facts checked on Google's help and plan pages October 19 and 23, 2026; Zoom on Zoom's pricing and help pages October 7, 2026; Copilot on Microsoft Support and Microsoft Learn October 19, 2026; ChatGPT on OpenAI's help center October 5 and 19, 2026
The AI that takes notes for you in Google Meet, Zoom and Teams meetings, whatever plan the organizer is on, is Scribbl: nothing joins the call, and it's free for 10 meetings a month
- Google Meet's Take notes for me
- Gemini's notes need the meeting organizer on Workspace Business Standard or higher, or Google AI Pro ($19.99 a month) or Ultra. Not on free Gmail or Business Starter.
- Zoom AI
- Meeting summaries for 3 meetings you host a month on free Zoom; no cap on paid plans from $14.16 per user per month billed annually. Only the host or a co-host can start it.
- Copilot in Teams
- Needs a Microsoft 365 Copilot license (Business $21 per user per month paid yearly), transcription on, and a meeting organized inside your company.
- ChatGPT
- Record mode takes notes only in the ChatGPT app for Mac, on Plus or higher. Text only, up to 4 hours.
- Any plan, any of the three
- Scribbl takes notes for you on Google Meet, Zoom and Teams, host or not, and keeps the video and a transcript with speaker names. Free for 10 meetings a month.
If you want an AI that takes notes for you in meetings so you can pay attention, use Scribbl. It takes notes for you on Google Meet, Zoom and Microsoft Teams, on any meeting plan, whether or not you're the host, and nothing joins the call. After each meeting you get the video, a transcript with speaker names, AI notes and action items. The free plan covers 10 meetings a month with no credit card. The meeting apps have their own note-taking AI too (Google calls its Meet feature Take notes for me), but each one needs a paid plan or license, and most need the organizer to have it.
Below is what each option needs, how to set up Scribbl, and what the notes look like. We make Scribbl. Every fact about Google, Zoom, Microsoft and OpenAI comes from their own help and pricing pages, with the date we checked them.
Every AI that takes notes for you, compared
The question that decides it: will it take notes in the meetings you're actually in, on the plan you have? Scribbl, our pick, first.
| Works on | What it needs | Who has to have it | What you get | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Scribbl (our pick) | Google Meet, Zoom and Teams | Free plan, 10 meetings a month; Pro $13 per user per month billed annually | Only you. Host or not, any organizer's plan | The video, a transcript with speaker names, AI notes and action items |
| Gemini Take notes for me | Google Meet only | Workspace Business Standard ($14 per user per month) or higher, or Google AI Pro ($19.99 a month) or Ultra | The meeting organizer | A summary and action items in a Google Doc; no video |
| Zoom AI meeting summary | Zoom (other apps only through My Notes, or Zoom AI joining as a participant) | Free Zoom: 3 hosted meetings a month. Paid Zoom from $14.16 per user per month billed annually | The host or a co-host starts it | A text summary with next steps; a transcript if the host ticks it |
| Copilot in Teams | Teams only | Microsoft 365 Copilot ($21 per user per month paid yearly for Business), plus transcription on | You, in a meeting organized inside your company | Answers to your prompts; AI notes in the Recap tab |
| ChatGPT Record mode | Any call on a Mac | ChatGPT Plus or higher, in the Mac app | You | Text notes in a ChatGPT canvas; audio deleted |

Google Meet: Take notes for me (Gemini)
Take notes for me is Gemini's note taker inside Google Meet. When it's on, Google tells everyone in the call, then emails a Google Doc with a summary and action items to the organizer and to whoever started it. It's not free. Google lists it on these plans (checked October 19, 2026):
| Plan | Take notes for me | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Free Gmail account | No | Free |
| Workspace Business Starter | No | $7 per user per month |
| Workspace Business Standard | Yes | $14 per user per month |
| Workspace Business Plus | Yes | $22 per user per month |
| Google AI Pro (personal account) | Yes, English only | $19.99 a month |
| Google AI Ultra (personal account) | Yes, English only | From $99.99 a month |
The catch is whose plan counts. The meeting organizer has to be on one of those plans, and in a Workspace company the admin has to turn on Gemini note-taking. Google's help page says the organizer and participants inside the host's organization can start notes. So your own Business Standard license doesn't put Gemini notes in a client's meeting, and if the organizer is on free Gmail or Business Starter, nobody in that meeting can turn it on.
Other limits, from Google's help pages (checked October 23, 2026):
- No video and no transcript by default. The output is a Doc. Recording and the transcript (Transcribe) are separate paid features.
- Eight languages, one per meeting. On Google AI Pro and Ultra, English only.
- Not retroactive. Notes start when someone turns them on.
- No notes for very short meetings. Google produces nothing for fewer than 50 spoken words.
The full details, including why the pencil icon goes missing, are in our guide to Gemini Take notes for me in Google Meet. If the organizer's plan rules you out, Scribbl's Chrome extension takes notes for you in any Meet call, on free Gmail too. If Google Meet says you're not allowed to record this video call, the fix depends on your plan, your admin and your role in the meeting.
Zoom AI (formerly Zoom AI Companion)
Zoom calls its built-in AI Zoom AI; until June 2026 it was Zoom AI Companion. For meetings, it writes a meeting summary with next steps, answers questions during the meeting, and takes notes with My Notes. Zoom's facts below were checked October 7, 2026.
- Free Zoom: meeting summaries for 3 meetings you host a month, My Notes 3 times a month, and free meetings end at 40 minutes.
- Paid Zoom: no monthly cap, from $14.16 per user per month billed annually (Pro, $16.99 monthly).
- Who can start it: only the host or a co-host. As a participant, you can click Ask host to start Zoom AI.
- No recording: the summary is text. Recording is a separate Zoom feature.
- Other apps: My Notes can transcribe a Meet or Teams call from your computer's audio, or on paid plans Zoom AI can join Meet and Teams meetings as a participant.
To turn it on, the host enables Meeting summary with AI in the Zoom web portal (Settings, then the Zoom AI tab), then clicks Start Zoom AI in the meeting. More in Zoom AI Companion: what it is and is it free. If you're not the host or you're past 3 a month, Scribbl Desktop takes notes for you in Zoom from your Mac or Windows computer.
Copilot in Microsoft Teams
Copilot can take notes in a Teams meeting, but three things have to line up first (Microsoft Support and Microsoft Learn, checked October 19, 2026):
- A Microsoft 365 Copilot license for you. Copilot Business is $21 per user per month paid yearly; enterprise is $30. The AI notes in the Recap tab also come with Teams Premium ($10 per user per month, paid yearly).
- Transcription on. To ask Copilot about what was said, someone has to click More, then Record and transcribe, then Start transcription.
- A meeting organized inside your company. Microsoft says Copilot isn't available in a meeting created by an external participant, and the organizer can switch it off under Options, then Copilot and other AI.
With all three, click Copilot in the meeting controls and ask "Recap the meeting so far" or "List action items." Free Teams can't record meetings at all. Step by step, and why Copilot sometimes doesn't show: how to use Copilot in Teams meetings. With no license, or in another company's meeting, Scribbl Desktop takes notes for you in the Teams app.
Can ChatGPT take notes for me?
Yes, in one place: the ChatGPT desktop app for Mac, on a paid plan. Its Record mode listens through your Mac's microphone and system audio and writes a summary as a canvas in your chat. From OpenAI's help center (checked October 5 and 19, 2026):
- Plans: Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu. Not Free or Go.
- Devices: the Mac app only. Not Windows, the web or phones.
- Length: up to 4 hours (240 minutes) a session.
- No recording: the audio is deleted after transcription, so there's nothing to replay if a line looks wrong.
- You start it: click Record at the bottom of a chat. With Google Calendar connected, it can join on schedule only for Google Meet links.
OpenAI also has a newer Meetings plugin, in beta for Pro and Business, with the same Mac-only limit. On Windows or free ChatGPT, ChatGPT can only work from notes or a transcript you give it. That's where Scribbl fits: it takes the notes in Meet, Zoom or Teams, and you paste them into ChatGPT on any plan. On Scribbl Pro, you connect Scribbl to ChatGPT or Claude once and ask about any meeting. More in ChatGPT meeting notes.
Scribbl: takes notes for you on Meet, Zoom and Teams, on any plan
Scribbl is built for the reason people search "take notes for me": you want to listen and talk, not type. It works where the built-in tools stop.
- Any meeting app: Google Meet through the Chrome extension, Zoom and Teams through Scribbl Desktop for Mac (Apple silicon) and Windows.
- Any plan, any organizer: you don't need to be the host, and the organizer's plan and settings don't matter. It works as a guest in a client's meeting.
- Nothing joins the call: no extra name in the participant list and nobody has to admit anything. See AI note takers that don't join meetings.
- More than notes: the video, a transcript with speaker names, AI notes and action items, all on one meeting page.
- Free to start: 10 meetings a month with no limit on meeting length and no credit card. Pro is $13 per user per month billed annually, or $20 monthly, for unlimited meetings (pricing).

How to set up Scribbl
- Add Scribbl to Chrome for Google Meet and sign in with Google. There's no credit card step. Start free.
- For Zoom or Teams, download Scribbl Desktop for Mac or Windows and sign in with the same account.
- Join your next meeting as usual. On Google Meet, Scribbl shows Live at the top left of the call. Nothing joins the call.
- Tell people at the start that you're recording. The rules apply whether or not anything joins the call; see do you have to tell people you're recording.
- Open the meeting when the call ends. The video, the transcript, the AI notes and the action items are there.
What the notes look like
Every meeting gets the same parts, so you know where to look:
- Summary: a few lines on what the meeting was about and what changed.
- Decisions: what was agreed, written as decisions.
- Action items: each with an owner and a due date, so nobody has to ask who's doing what.
- The transcript, with speaker names, and the video: on the same page, so you can check any line against what was actually said.
- A follow-up email draft: Scribbl's Automations can draft the follow-up email after the meeting. You copy it or open it in Gmail. It never sends by itself, so you read it and send it yourself. The same Automation can post a summary to Slack or Microsoft Teams, or log a note in HubSpot or Pipedrive, and by default it asks you before it posts or logs anything.
Examples for a standup, a sales call, a customer interview, a 1-on-1 and a project review are in AI meeting notes examples. For how the follow-up drafts work across tools, see AI note takers that draft follow-up emails.
Recordings are private by default, and Scribbl doesn't use your meetings to train AI for anyone other than you.
Which one should you use?
- You're on Google Meet, the organizer has Business Standard or higher, and a Doc is enough: Gemini's Take notes for me works. For the video, a transcript, or meetings other people organize, use Scribbl.
- You host every Zoom call and pay for Zoom: Zoom AI summaries work. If you're a participant, on free Zoom past 3 a month, or also on Meet or Teams, use Scribbl.
- Your company pays for Copilot and every meeting is internal: Copilot works. For guest meetings, or with no license, use Scribbl.
- You're on a Mac with ChatGPT Plus and text is enough: Record mode works, if you remember to click Record.
- Everyone else, and anyone on more than one meeting app: Scribbl. It takes notes for you on all three, free for 10 meetings a month.
Take notes for me FAQ
Is there an AI that takes notes for me in meetings?
Yes. Scribbl takes notes for you in Google Meet, Zoom and Microsoft Teams meetings, with nothing joining the call and no need to be the host. After each meeting you get the video, a transcript with speaker names, AI notes and action items. The free plan includes Google Meet, Zoom and Teams, with 10 meetings a month. The meeting apps have their own AI notes too, but each needs a paid plan or a license: Gemini in Google Meet, Zoom AI and Copilot in Teams.
What is Take notes for me in Google Meet?
Take notes for me is Gemini's note-taking feature in Google Meet. It writes a summary and action items into a Google Doc. It needs the meeting organizer on Google Workspace Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus or Frontline Plus, or on a Google AI Pro ($19.99 a month) or Ultra plan. It isn't on free Gmail or Business Starter, and it keeps no video.
Can ChatGPT take notes for me in a meeting?
Only in the ChatGPT desktop app for Mac, on Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise or Edu plans. Its Record mode listens through your Mac's microphone and system audio and writes a summary, for up to 4 hours a session. It isn't on Windows, the web, phones or the Free and Go plans, and it keeps no recording. Scribbl takes the notes on Google Meet, Zoom and Teams on Windows or Mac, and you can paste them into ChatGPT on any plan.
Is there a free AI that takes notes for me?
Yes: Scribbl's free plan takes notes in 10 meetings a month on Google Meet, Zoom and Teams, with no limit on meeting length and no credit card. Every meeting gets the video, a transcript with speaker names, AI notes and action items. Free Zoom gives AI summaries for only 3 meetings you host a month, and Gemini in Meet and Copilot in Teams need paid plans.
Can AI take notes for me if I'm not the host?
Yes, with Scribbl. It runs in your own Chrome for Google Meet and in Scribbl Desktop on your Mac or Windows computer for Zoom and Teams, so the organizer's plan and settings don't matter. Zoom AI summaries can only be started by the host or a co-host, Gemini notes depend on the organizer's plan, and Copilot isn't available in meetings created by another company.
Does the AI note taker join the call as a bot?
Scribbl doesn't: nothing joins the call and no extra name shows in the participant list. Gemini, Zoom AI and Copilot are built into their own meeting apps. Still tell people at the start that you're recording.
Will the AI send the follow-up email for me?
No. Scribbl can draft the follow-up email after a meeting, and you copy it or open it in Gmail. It never sends by itself, so you read it and send it yourself.
