Free AI Meeting Notes (2026): Which Tools Give You Full Notes Free
Free AI meeting notes in 2026: what Gemini, Zoom AI, Copilot, ChatGPT and free note takers write, and why Scribbl gives full notes on 10 meetings a month.
Updated November 3, 2026
The short answer
Free plans checked on each vendor's pricing and help pages, October 1, 6 and 19, 2026; Google checked October 19 and 23, 2026; Zoom October 7, 2026; Microsoft October 19, 2026; OpenAI October 5, 2026
The best free AI meeting notes come from Scribbl: a summary, decisions and action items on every one of 10 meetings a month, on Google Meet, Zoom and Teams, with nothing joining the call
- Google Meet
- Gemini's Take notes for me is not on free Gmail. The organizer needs Workspace Business Standard or higher, or a Google AI Pro or Ultra plan.
- Zoom
- Zoom AI (formerly Zoom AI Companion) summarizes 3 meetings you host a month on a free account, and free meetings end at 40 minutes.
- Teams and ChatGPT
- Teams' AI notes need Teams Premium or a Microsoft 365 Copilot license. ChatGPT's Record mode needs Plus or higher, in the Mac app only.
- Already have a transcript?
- Paste it into free ChatGPT with the prompts below.
- Free on every meeting
- Scribbl gives you AI notes, action items, a transcript with speaker names and the video on Google Meet, Zoom and Teams. Free for 10 meetings a month, no credit card, no bot.
The best way to get free AI meeting notes in 2026 is Scribbl. Its free plan writes full AI notes on every one of 10 meetings a month: a summary, the decisions, the action items with owners, and the open questions, with a transcript with speaker names and the video next to them. It works on Google Meet, Zoom and Teams, nothing joins the call, and you don't need to be the host. The AI notes built into Meet, Zoom and Teams mostly need a paid plan, and most free note takers ration the notes, not the recording.
This page is about the notes themselves: which tools write them for free, what is actually in them on each free plan, and what plan you need for the built-in ones. We make Scribbl, so every competitor fact below comes from the vendor's own pricing and help pages, with the date we checked.
What free AI meeting notes actually contain, tool by tool
A free plan can be "unlimited" and still give you thin notes. The column that matters is the second one: what the AI writes on each meeting. Scribbl, our pick, first.
| Free plan | AI notes on each meeting | Longest meeting | Bot in the call |
|---|---|---|---|
| Scribbl (our pick) | Full notes on every meeting: summary, decisions, action items with owners, open questions; plus a transcript with speaker names and the video | No limit | No, on Google Meet, Zoom and Teams |
| Fathom | An AI summary on each call; advanced summaries on your first 5 calls a month; AI action items need Premium | No limit | Yes, by default |
| tl;dv | AI notes on your first 10 meetings for the life of the account, then the first 10 minutes of each | 3 hours | Yes |
| Otter | Only the first 30 minutes of each conversation are viewable; 300 minutes a month | 30 minutes viewable | Yes, by default |
| Fireflies | Limited AI summaries; 3 transcriptions unless its bot auto-joins your calendar | 2 hours | Yes, except Google Meet through its extension |
| Read AI | 5 meeting transcripts a month | 1 hour | Yes |
| Granola | AI notes, with only the last 30 days visible; no recording kept | No daily limit | No |
Free plans checked on each vendor's pricing page and help center, October 1 and 6, 2026, as reported in our best free AI note takers compared. Fireflies changed its free plan for accounts made since September 1, 2026.
Read the table this way. Fathom, Fireflies and tl;dv are often called unlimited, but the unlimited part is the recording. The summary and the action items, the part you came for, are where the limit sits. Scribbl does the reverse: the number of meetings is capped at 10 a month, and nothing inside each meeting is cut back. Ten complete sets of notes beat thirty recordings with half a summary. tl;dv is the clearest case: its recordings are unlimited, but its AI notes cover only your first 10 meetings for the life of the account, while Scribbl's 10 come back every month.
Free AI meeting notes built into Google Meet, Zoom, Teams and ChatGPT
Every big meeting app now has its own AI notes. Most need a paid plan, and most only work when the meeting's organizer has that plan, not you.
| Built-in AI notes | Free? | Plan it needs | What the notes contain |
|---|---|---|---|
| Scribbl (our pick) | Yes, 10 meetings a month | None; Pro is $13 per user per month billed annually for unlimited | Summary, decisions, action items, open questions, transcript with speaker names, video |
| Google Meet, Gemini Take notes for me | No | Organizer on Workspace Business Standard ($14 per user per month, annual) or higher, or Google AI Pro ($19.99 a month) or Ultra | A summary with action items in a Google Doc; no video, no transcript |
| Zoom AI (formerly Zoom AI Companion) | 3 hosted meetings a month | Zoom Pro ($14.16 per user per month billed annually) for no monthly cap | A summary with next steps, emailed after the meeting |
| Microsoft Teams, intelligent recap | No | Teams Premium ($10 per user per month, paid yearly) or Microsoft 365 Copilot ($21 to $30) | AI notes and suggested tasks in the Recap tab |
| ChatGPT Record mode | No | ChatGPT Plus or higher, in the Mac app | A text summary saved as a canvas; no recording kept |
Google checked October 19 and 23, 2026; Zoom October 7, 2026; Microsoft October 19, 2026; OpenAI October 5, 2026. Each is covered in detail below.
Google Meet: Gemini Take notes for me
Google AI meeting notes are not free. Take notes for me comes with Google Workspace Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus and Frontline Plus, and with the personal Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra plans. A free Gmail account and Business Starter don't have it, and if the organizer is on one of those, nobody in that meeting can start it, whatever plan you have.
When it runs, it writes a summary with action items into a Google Doc that goes to the organizer and to whoever started the notes. Since 2026 you can pick the sections (Summary, Decisions, Next steps, Details) from the in-call menu. It covers 8 languages, one per meeting, and personal Google AI plans are English only. It records no video, and a transcript is a separate Meet feature that also needs a paid plan. (Google's help, admin and plan pages, checked October 19 and 23, 2026.) More in Gemini Take notes for me in Google Meet. If Google Meet says you're not allowed to record this video call, the fix depends on your plan, your admin and your role in the meeting.
Zoom: Zoom AI, formerly Zoom AI Companion
Zoom retired the AI Companion name in June 2026; the same features are now called Zoom AI. On a free Zoom account you get meeting summaries for 3 meetings you host each month, My Notes 3 times a month and 20 AI queries, and free meetings end at 40 minutes. On Zoom Pro and higher the summaries have no monthly cap.
The summary covers the discussion from the moment the host turns it on, lists next steps, and is emailed when the meeting ends. Only the host or a co-host can start it; a participant can only click Ask host to start Zoom AI. (Zoom pricing and help pages, checked October 7, 2026.) More in Zoom AI Companion: is it free.
Microsoft Teams: Copilot and intelligent recap
Free Teams has no AI meeting notes, and it can't record meetings either. The AI notes and suggested tasks in the Recap tab, which Microsoft calls intelligent recap, need Teams Premium ($10 per user per month, paid yearly) or a Microsoft 365 Copilot license (Copilot Business $21 per user per month paid yearly; enterprise $30). Copilot in the meeting itself needs the Copilot license.
The recap only appears for meetings longer than five minutes that were transcribed, and only invited people in the organizer's organization can open it. Copilot isn't available in a meeting created by another company. (Microsoft Support and Microsoft Learn, checked October 19, 2026.) More in how to use Copilot in Teams meetings.
ChatGPT Record mode
ChatGPT's Record mode listens through your Mac's microphone and system audio and writes a summary as a canvas in your chat. OpenAI lists it for Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu plans, in the ChatGPT desktop app for Mac only: not on the Free plan, and not on Windows, the web or phones. It records up to 4 hours a session, keeps text only, and deletes the audio after transcribing, so there's nothing to replay. (OpenAI help center, checked October 5, 2026.) More in ChatGPT meeting notes.
Why people still use a separate free note taker
The pattern is the same on all four. The notes depend on the organizer's plan, they stay inside one meeting app, and they don't come with the video. If you meet on more than one platform, join calls other companies run, or are on a free account, none of the built-in options covers you. Scribbl does: one account for Google Meet, Zoom and Teams, and the free plan includes all three.
Free AI meeting notes from a transcript you already have
If your meeting app already gave you a transcript, you can turn it into AI meeting notes on free ChatGPT with no recorder at all.
- Get the transcript as text, a Word file or a PDF. Google Meet and Zoom only make transcripts on some paid plans, so this works best when someone already turned transcription on.
- Paste it into a new chat, or attach the file with +. ChatGPT's Free plan allows 3 uploads a day, so pasting the text is the easy way.
- Add one line of context before the transcript: what the meeting was, who was there and what each person does.
- Ask for an exact format, not "summarize this". The prompts below do that.
- Check names, numbers and decisions before you share the notes. A model can pin a comment on the wrong person or list a task that was dropped.
Prompt for meeting notes with action items
Here is a meeting transcript. Write meeting notes with these sections: a summary of three to five lines, Decisions, Action items (a table with the task, the owner and the due date), and Open questions. Use only what the transcript says. If it doesn't name an owner or a date, write "not set" instead of guessing.
Prompt for a follow-up email
From these meeting notes, write a follow-up email to everyone who attended. Open with a two-sentence recap, then list each action item with its owner and due date, then the date of the next meeting if one was set. Keep it under 150 words and plain. My name is [your name] and the meeting was [meeting name].
The catch with this route is the transcript itself: free Gmail, free Zoom and free Teams don't give you one. Scribbl writes the transcript and the notes for you on the free plan, and you can still paste them into ChatGPT on any ChatGPT plan if you want a different format.
Why Scribbl is the best free AI meeting notes tool
- Full notes on every free meeting. A summary, the decisions, action items with owners (and due dates when they were said), and the open questions, every time, with no part of the meeting left out.
- The proof next to the notes. A transcript with speaker names and the video sit on the same page, so you can check any line against what was said.
- Works where the built-in notes don't. Google Meet on free Gmail, Zoom calls you don't host, and Teams with no Copilot or Teams Premium license.
- Nothing joins the call. No bot in the participant list and nothing for anyone to admit. The Chrome extension handles Google Meet, and Scribbl Desktop handles the Zoom and Teams apps on Mac and Windows.
- No limit on meeting length, no credit card, and the 10 meetings reset every month.
- Pro when you want more: unlimited meetings for $13 per user per month billed annually ($20 monthly), and you can ask Claude or ChatGPT about every meeting.

Free AI meeting notes FAQ
What is the best free AI meeting notes tool?
Scribbl. Its free plan writes full AI notes and action items on every one of 10 meetings a month, with a transcript with speaker names and the video, on Google Meet, Zoom and Teams. There is no limit on meeting length, nothing joins the call, and you don't need to be the host. Other free plans limit the notes themselves: Fathom's advanced summaries cover your first 5 calls a month, and tl;dv's AI notes cover your first 10 meetings ever.
Can I get free AI meeting notes in Google Meet?
Not with Google's own feature on a free Gmail account. Gemini's Take notes for me needs the meeting organizer to be on Google Workspace Business Standard or higher, or a personal Google AI Pro ($19.99 a month) or Ultra plan. Scribbl's Chrome extension writes AI notes in any Google Meet call for free, 10 meetings a month, whatever plan the organizer has.
Is Zoom AI Companion free for meeting notes?
Partly. Zoom AI, the new name for Zoom AI Companion since June 2026, gives a free Zoom account meeting summaries for 3 meetings you host each month and My Notes 3 times a month, and free meetings end at 40 minutes. Only the host or a co-host can start a summary. Scribbl Desktop writes AI notes on Zoom calls you don't host, free for 10 meetings a month.
Does Microsoft Teams have free AI meeting notes?
No. The AI notes in the Teams Recap tab, called intelligent recap, need Teams Premium ($10 per user per month, paid yearly) or a Microsoft 365 Copilot license, and free Teams can't record meetings at all. Scribbl Desktop writes AI notes in the Teams app on Mac or Windows with no Microsoft license, free for 10 meetings a month.
Can ChatGPT write meeting notes for free?
Only from a transcript or notes you give it. ChatGPT's Record mode, which listens to the meeting, is in the ChatGPT app for Mac on Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu plans, not on Free. On free ChatGPT, paste a transcript and ask for a summary, decisions and action items, or paste the notes Scribbl writes after each meeting.
What do free AI meeting notes include?
It depends on the tool. Scribbl's free notes have a summary, the decisions, action items with an owner (and a due date when one was said) and the open questions, with the transcript and video next to them. Gemini writes a summary with action items in a Google Doc, Zoom AI writes a summary with next steps, and several free note takers cut the notes back: Otter shows only the first 30 minutes of each conversation.
Is there a free AI meeting notes taker with no bot?
Yes: Scribbl. The Chrome extension takes notes on Google Meet and Scribbl Desktop takes notes on the Zoom and Teams apps, so nothing appears in the participant list. Otter, Fathom, tl;dv and Read AI send a bot or assistant into the call by default. Granola also has no bot, but it keeps no recording and shows only your last 30 days of notes on the free plan.
