Get a transcript of your next Google Meet with Scribbl
Every other row in that table has a catch: no recording to check the transcript against, a 30-minute cut, a bot the host has to admit, or 3 free meetings. Scribbl has none of them, and the setup is three steps:
- 1
Add Scribbl to Chrome
Start free and sign in with your Google account, free Gmail or Workspace.
- 2
Join the Google Meet call as usual
Scribbl shows Live at the top left. Nothing joins the meeting and nothing appears in the participant list. Tell everyone you are transcribing.
- 3
Open the transcript when the call ends
The Transcript tab shows who said what by name, next to the video, the AI notes and the action items.
The free plan includes Google Meet, Zoom and Microsoft Teams, with 10 meetings a month. Start free. More on what the transcript looks like and how to share it: meeting transcription with Scribbl.
1. Scribbl: the best Google Meet transcript extension
Scribbl is a Chrome extension for Google Meet. It transcribes the call from your own browser with nothing joining the meeting, so there's nothing for the host to admit and nothing in the participant list. (Pricing.)
- The transcript, with speaker names. Who said what, by name, on the meeting page after the call. Search it, share it, or ask about it.
- The video and the notes with it. Every Meet call also gets the video recording, AI notes and action items, so you can check any line of the transcript against the recording.
- Any Google account, host or guest. Free Gmail or paid Workspace, your own meetings or calls other companies host.
- After the call. Smart Collections sort meetings by themselves. Automations do the follow-up when a meeting lands in a collection: draft the follow-up email for you to copy or open in Gmail (it never sends by itself), log a note in HubSpot or Pipedrive, post to Slack or Microsoft Teams, save to Google Drive, Notion or Confluence, open an Asana, Monday, Linear or Jira ticket, or add a Google Sheet row. They ask before they change anything by default.
- Ask ChatGPT or Claude about any past transcript on Pro (how it works).
- Zoom and Teams too. Scribbl Desktop for Mac (Apple silicon) and Windows transcribes Zoom and Microsoft Teams in the same account.
- Free plan. The free plan includes Google Meet, Zoom and Microsoft Teams, with 10 meetings a month. Pro is $13 per user per month billed annually, or $20 monthly.
- Private by default. Transcripts and recordings are private, and Scribbl doesn't use your meetings to train AI for anyone other than you.
Best for: anyone who wants a transcript with speaker names of every Google Meet call, with the video to check it against, and nothing joining the call. Start free.
2. Tactiq: a live transcript, with no recording
Tactiq's Chrome Web Store listing is "Tactiq: AI note taker for Google Meet, Zoom and MS Teams." (Tactiq pricing.)
- How it transcribes. The listing says "No bot joins your call" and describes real-time transcription in Google Meet running in your browser, with "speaker labels and timestamps on every line."
- No recording. The listing says "No meeting recording is required." That also means there's no video to replay when a line of the transcript looks wrong.
- Free plan. 10 transcripts a month and 5 AI credits.
- Price. Pro is $8 per user per month billed annually, with unlimited transcripts and 10 AI credits a month. Team is $16.67 and Business $29.17, billed annually.
Watch out for: the 10-transcript monthly cap, and no video. Every plan: Tactiq pricing.
3. Otter: a live transcript, cut at 30 minutes on the free plan
Otter's extension is "Otter.ai: Record & Transcribe Meetings - Google Meet & Web Audio." (Otter pricing.)
- How it transcribes. The listing offers two ways in Google Meet: on your device with no bot in the meeting, or by sending Otter's AI Notetaker in as a normal participant. It also transcribes any tab with audio.
- Free plan. 300 transcription minutes a month, 30 minutes per conversation.
- Video. Video replay for Zoom and Google Meet is on Enterprise only.
- Price. Pro is $8.33 per user per month billed annually, or $16.99 monthly. Business is $19.99 billed annually, or $30 monthly.
Watch out for: the 30-minute cap per conversation on the free plan, which ends the transcript halfway through an hour-long call. Every plan: Otter.ai pricing.
4. Fireflies: bot-free with the extension, 3 free meetings for new accounts
Fireflies transcribes with a bot by default, but its Chrome extension works without one. (Fireflies Chrome extension page, pricing.)
- How it transcribes. The extension page says it records, transcribes and summarizes Google Meet calls "without a bot joining the meeting," starting on its own when the call starts.
- Free plan. Unlimited transcription only with auto-join turned on, for accounts made on or after September 1, 2026; otherwise 3 meeting transcriptions. No video on the free plan.
- Price. Pro is $10 per seat per month billed annually, or $18 monthly, and adds video. Business is $19 billed annually, or $29 monthly.
Watch out for: 3 free meetings unless you let the bot auto-join your calendar. Every plan: Fireflies pricing.
5. tl;dv: free transcripts, through a bot
tl;dv's listing is "Record, Transcribe & ChatGPT/Claude for Google Meet." (Record Google Meet, pricing.)
- How it transcribes. tl;dv's Google Meet page says to "use the Chrome extension to have a bot join and record." Its desktop app records from your device with no bot.
- Free plan. Unlimited recordings and transcription, with AI notes on 10 meetings.
- Price. Pro is $18 per seat per month billed annually; Business is $29.
Watch out for: the bot the host has to admit, and AI notes that stop after 10 free meetings. More options: tl;dv alternatives.
What about Google Meet's own transcript?
Google Meet can write its own transcript, but only on some paid Google Workspace plans (Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise, Workspace Individual and some Education plans), only when started by someone in the host's organization, and the file goes to the organizer's Google Drive as a Google Doc. Free Gmail and Business Starter don't have it, and guests from other companies can't start it or get the file. Where to find it, how to download it and what to do without it: Google Meet transcription.
If any of those limits is yours, Scribbl's extension is the way around all of them: it transcribes any Meet call you're in, on any Google account, and the transcript stays in your own account.
How we ranked
We read each company's Chrome Web Store listing and pricing page on October 19, 2026, and ranked on what matters for a Google Meet transcript: whether anything joins the call, whether the transcript names speakers, whether the video is kept with it, and whether it works when you're not the host. Scribbl's facts come from our own pricing page. Prices and plans change often, so check the linked page before you buy.
The pick is Scribbl: a transcript with speaker names after every Google Meet call, with the video and AI notes, and nothing joining the call. The free plan includes Google Meet, Zoom and Microsoft Teams, with 10 meetings a month. Start free.
FAQ
What is the best Google Meet transcript extension?
Scribbl, which makes this page. Its Chrome extension gives you a transcript with speaker names after every Google Meet call, together with the video and AI notes, with nothing joining the call. It works on free Gmail and paid Google Workspace, and when you're a guest in someone else's meeting. The free plan includes Google Meet, Zoom and Microsoft Teams, with 10 meetings a month.
Can I get a Google Meet transcript for free with a Chrome extension?
Yes. Scribbl's free plan includes Google Meet, Zoom and Microsoft Teams, with 10 meetings a month, each with a transcript with speaker names, the video and AI notes. Start free at extension.app.scribbl.co/signup. Tactiq's free plan is 10 transcripts a month with no recording. Otter's is 300 minutes a month, cut at 30 minutes per conversation. Fireflies' free plan gives new accounts 3 meeting transcriptions unless its bot auto-joins your calendar.
Do I need to be the host to transcribe a Google Meet?
Not with an extension that runs in your own browser. Scribbl transcribes any Meet call you're in, as host or guest, because nothing has to be admitted to the call. Google's built-in transcript can only be started by people in the host's organization, on paid Workspace plans, and the file goes to the organizer. Tell everyone you're transcribing.
Which Google Meet transcript extensions work without a bot?
Scribbl, Tactiq, Otter's on-device mode and the Fireflies Chrome extension transcribe from your browser with nothing joining the call. tl;dv's Google Meet page says its Chrome extension has a bot join the call, and Otter can also send its notetaker in as a participant. Scribbl is the one that adds nothing to the call and still keeps the video with the transcript.
Does the transcript include speaker names?
Scribbl's transcript shows who said what by name. Tactiq's listing says it puts speaker labels and timestamps on every line. Fireflies and tl;dv label speakers too. Google's own Meet transcript also names speakers, but only on the paid Workspace plans that include it.
Does Google Meet have a built-in transcript?
Yes, on Google Workspace Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise plans, Workspace Individual and some Education plans. People in the host's organization start it from Meeting tools, then Transcribe, and the transcript lands as a Google Doc in the organizer's Drive. Free Gmail and Business Starter don't have it, and guests from other companies can't start it. Scribbl covers those cases.
Can I get a transcript from a Google Meet recording I already have?
Not from Google Meet itself: Meet only writes a transcript when someone starts it during the call. The fix for next time is to run Scribbl, which transcribes every Meet call you're in and keeps the video with it, so you never have to remember to press anything.
